This page covers tripyy.in: the home page and the trip expense calculator. The Tripyy app at app.tripyy.in is separate, with its own sign-in and its own data, and this page doesn't cover it.

The short version

• You don't need an account, and we don't ask for your phone number or email.
• The sums run in your browser. Nothing you type is saved while you work.
• Two things leave the page, and only when you tap them: sharing, and "Read it".
• A shared trip is saved for 30 days, then deleted.
• No ads, no ad trackers, no cookies of our own.

Sharing a trip

When you tap Send on WhatsApp, Copy summary or Copy share link, the calculator saves the trip on Tripyy's server so a short link (like tripyy.in/c/k3f9x2) can open it. What's saved is only what's in the calculator: the names, UPI ids, pot amounts and bills.

• Nothing else is saved with it: no account, no phone number, no IP address.
• Anyone who has the link can see those names and amounts. Share it only with your group.
• The link works for 30 days from when it was made. After that it stops opening and the saved trip is deleted within the hour.
• Our server keeps nightly backups for 14 days, so a deleted trip is gone from backups within 14 days after that.
• Sharing the same trip again without changes gives you the same link. It doesn't save a second copy.
• Older long links, with the bills packed in after the # sign, are never sent to our server.

To stop a link sooner, email hello@tripyy.in with the link. We'll delete it by hand and reply when it's done.

"Read it" (AI)

"Read it" turns a line like "cab 1200 sab ke liye" into a bill for you to check. When you tap it:

• The line you typed and the names you entered are sent to Tripyy's server.
• Our server sends the line to an AI model run by an outside provider, which reads it into a bill, then sends the bill back to your screen. If the AI is slow or down, a simple reader on our own server fills in what it can instead.
• We don't save or log the line or the names. The AI provider handles what it receives under its own terms and may use it to improve its products.

Limits and bot checks

To stop abuse, the calculator allows 30 new short links and 20 AI reads per visitor a day, and only so many requests a minute. To count them, our server holds your internet address in memory only: the daily counts keep only a scrambled form of it (a salted hash), and the per-minute counts keep the address itself until old entries are cleared out. None of it is written to disk, and all of it is wiped whenever the server restarts.

Before an AI read, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you're a person and not a bot. It loads only once you start typing a line for "Read it". Your browser talks to Cloudflare for this check, and our server sends Cloudflare your internet address to confirm it.

Visit counts

We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics. It uses no cookies. It sees which page was opened, not what you type, and it doesn't see the part of a link after the # sign.
